A PURITAN CATECHISM

76. What is Baptism?
Baptism is an ordinance of the New Testament, instituted by Jesus Christ, to be to the person baptized a sign of his fellowship with him, in his death, and burial, and resurrection, of his being ingrafted into him, of remission of sins, and of his giving up himself to God through Jesus Christ, to live and walk in newness of life.

77. To whom is Baptism to be administered?
Baptism is to be administered to all those who actually profess repentance towards God, and faith in our Lord Jesus Christ, and to none other.

78. Are the infants of such as are professing to be baptized?
The infants of believers are not to be baptized; because there is neither command nor example in the holy scriptures, nor implication from them to baptize such. But baptism is made an expression of faith.

79. How is baptism rightly administered?
Baptism is rightly administered by immersion, or dipping the whole body of the person in water, in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, according to Christ's institution, and the practice of the apostles, and not by sprinkling or pouring of water, or dipping some part of the body, after the tradition of men.

80. What is the duty of such as are rightly baptized?
It is the duty of such as are rightly baptized, to give up themselves to some particular and orderly Church of Jesus Christ, that they may walk in all the commandments and ordinances of the Lord blameless.

O SONS AND DAUGHTERS, COME
(PSALM 34C)

O sons and daughters, come! Give ear!
And learn from me the Lord to fear
Who, seeking good, long life desires?
Or who to many days aspires?
From evil make your tongue refrain
From speaking lies your lips restrain
From every wicked way depart
Do good; seek peace with all your heart

The Lord on just men keeps His eyes
His ears are open to their cries
The Lord on vile men turns His face
From earth their mem’ry to erase
The righteous cried; the Lord gave heed
And then from all their troubles freed
To broken hearts the Lord is near
To save the contrite He’ll appear

Though righteous men great troubles see
The Lord from all will set them free
And all his bones He’ll keep secure
No broken ones will he endure
But evil slays all wicked men
Those hating just men are condemned
The Lord redeems those serving Him
None trusting Him will He condemn

IF TODAY YOU HEAR GOD'S VOICE
(PSALM 95)

If today you hear God's voice, harden not your hearts
(Repeat)
Come, ring out our joy to the Lord
Hail the Rock who saves us
Let us come now before our God
With songs let us hail the Lord
Come, let us bow and bend low
Let us kneel before God who made us,
For he is our God, we the people,
The flock that is led by God's hand
O that today you would hear God's voice,
“Harden not your hearts,
As on that day in the desert,
When your parents put me to the test."http://images.weddingclipart.com/images/1/1221244306526_373/img_large_watermarked.jpg

o hear my prayer
(psalm 84d)

O hear my prayer, LORD God of hosts
O Jacob's God, give ear to me.
With favor, God, look on our shield,
The face of Your anointed see.

Much better one day in Your courts
Compared to thousands spent outside!
I'd rather as God's doorman stand
Than in the wicked's tents reside.

A sun and shield is God the LORD
The LORD gives grace and glory too
From blameless ones, no good withholds.
Blessed, LORD of hosts, those trusting You.

SCRIPTURE READING

John 2

APOSTLES' CREED

I believe in God the Father Almighty,
Maker of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ,
His only-begotten Son, our Lord,
Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, dead, and buried.
He descended into hades.
The third day He rose again from the dead.
He ascended into heaven and sits
at the right hand of God the Father Almighty.
From there He shall come to judge
the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting.
Amen.

TIS SO SWEET TO TRUST IN JESUS

'Tis so sweet to trust in Jesus,
and to take him at his word;
just to rest upon his promise,
and to know, "Thus saith the Lord."

Jesus, Jesus, how I trust him!
How I've proved him o'er and o'er!
Jesus, Jesus, precious Jesus!
O for grace to trust him more!

O how sweet to trust in Jesus,
just to trust his cleansing blood;
and in simple faith to plunge me
neath the healing, cleansing flood!

Yes, 'tis sweet to trust in Jesus,
just from sin and self to cease;
just from Jesus simply taking
life and rest, and joy and peace.

BY FAITH

By faith we see the hand of God
In the light of creation's grand design
In the lives of those who prove His faithfulness
Who walk by faith and not by sight

By faith our fathers roamed the earth
With the pow'r of His promise in their hearts
Of a holy city built by God's own hand
A place where peace and justice reign

We will stand as children of the promise
We will fix our eyes on Him our soul's reward
Till the race is finished and the work is done
We'll walk by faith and not by sight

By faith the prophets saw a day
When the longed-for Messiah would appear
With the pow'r to break the chains of sin and death
And rise triumphant from the grave

By faith the church was called to go
In the pow'r of the Spirit to the lost
To deliver captives and to preach good news
In ev'ry corner of the earth

By faith the mountain shall be moved
And the pow'r of the gospel shall prevail
For we know in Christ all things are possible
For all who call upon His name

YOU MADE US YOUR OWN

We were ruined in our sin
We were guilty and undone
When Your love reached down with sovereign hands
And beckoned us to come

You sought out the wanderers
Made the prodigals come home
With a lavish feast You welcomed us
For You made us Your own

You have loved us like You love Your Son
We are heirs with Christ bought by His blood
Oh how great the love that we've been shown
We're Your children now (You made us Your own)

We are strangers to the world
But no strangers to Your throne
We draw near You now with confidence
For all our fears are gone

And when Christ our King returns
We'll meet saints we've never known
And forever we will be amazed
That You made us Your own

SERMON

Luke 18:15-17

TURN YOUR EYES

Turn your eyes upon Jesus
Look full in His wonderful face
And the things of earth will grow strangely dim
In the light of His glory and grace

Turn your eyes to the hillside
Where justice and mercy embrace
There the Son of God gave His life for us
And our measureless debt was erased

Jesus to You we lift our eyes
Jesus our glory and our prize
We adore You behold You our Savior ever true
Oh Jesus we turn our eyes to You

Turn your eyes to the morning
And see Christ the lion awake
What a glorious dawn fear of death is gone
For we carry His life in our veins

Turn your eyes to the heavens
Our King will return for His own
Every knee will bow every tongue will shout
All glory to Jesus alone
