PSALM SING

THE SON OF GOD GOES FORTH TO WAR
(PSALM 2)

The Son of God goes forth to war

A kingly crown to gain

His bloodred banner streams afar!

Who follows in His train?

Who best can drink His cup of woe

Triumphant over pain

Who patient bears his cross below

He follows in His train.

The martyr first, whose eagle eye

Could pierce beyond the grave

Who saw his Master in the sky

And called on Him to save

Like Him, with pardon on His tongue

In midst of mortal pain

He prayed for them that did the wrong

Who follows in His train?

A glorious band, the chosen few

On whom the Spirit came

Twelve valiant saints, their hope they knew

And mocked the cross and flame

They met the tyrant’s brandished steel

The lion’s gory mane

They bowed their necks to death to feel

Who follows in their train?

A noble army, men and boys

The matron and the maid

Around the Savior’s throne rejoice

In robes of light arrayed

They climbed the steep ascent of heav’n

Through peril, toil and pain

O God, to us may grace be giv’n

To follow in their train.

YOU HAVE RECORDED ALL MY WAYS
(PSALM 56B)

To the tune of "All Hail the Power of Jesus Name"

You have recorded all my ways,

All pathways that I took;

Within Your bottle placed my tears,

Are they not in Your book?

When I cry out then my foes flee;

I know God is for me.

In God whose word I give my praise,

The LORD's word I revere,

In God I now have put my trust,

So I will have no fear.

In God is where my trust will be;

What can man do to me?

Your vows are binding on me, God,

I'll render thanks to You.

For You have saved my soul from death,

My feet from stumbling, too.

So I will walk before God's sight

With life and in its light.

I AM VERY POOR AND NEEDY
(PSALM 109D)

To the tune of "Oh the Deep Deep Love of Jesus"

I am very poor and needy;
I am wounded in my heart.
My life passes like a shadow,
Like a locust shaken off.
Both my knees are weak from fasting;
Gaunt my body has become.
I am scorned by my accusers;
Seeing me, they shake their heads.

Help me, LORD, my Lord;
O save me In accordance with Your love.
Let them know that this is Your doing;
That Your hand, Lord, did this all.
Bless me even though they curse me;
When they strike, they're put to shame.
But may gladness fill Your servant,
While dishonor covers them.

Clothed with shame be my accusers,
Wrapped up in their own disgrace.
With my mouth then I will offer
Great thanksgiving to the Lord.
In the multitude I'll praise Him;
For He stands beside the poor
At their right hand; and He'll save them
From those who condemn his soul.

LISTEN TO MY WORDS, O LORD
(PSALM 5C)

To the tune of "Scarborough Fair"

Listen to my words, O LORD;

Know the whispered things I say.

Heed my crying out for help -

God, my King, to You I pray.

Hear me in the morning, LORD,

When I lift my voice on high,

Setting forth my plea to You,

 Looking out with watchful eye.

For I know that You, O God,

Find in evil no delight;

Evil cannot dwell with You,

Nor the proud stand in Your sight.

You hate all who practice sin.

You destroy the one who lies;

For the LORD abominates

Those who schemes of blood devise.

Yet in Your abounding love,

To Your house will I draw near,

Bowing to Your holy place,

Worshiping in rev'rent fear.

GOD IS OUR REFUGE AND OUR STRENGTH
(PSALM 46C)

To the tune of "A Mighty Fortress"

God is our refuge and our strength

 A present help in our distress

We will not therefore be afraid

Though all the earth should be removed

Though mountains great be hurled

Into the ocean’s depths

Though seas may roar and foam

And billows shake the shore

Though mountains tremble at their power

A river brings refreshing streams

To cheer the city of our God

The Most High’s holy dwelling place

God is in her; she won’t be moved

At dawn will God help her

The nations rage; realms quake

He lifts His voice; earth melts

The Lord of hosts with us!

Our fortress strong is Jacob’s God

O come, see what the Lord has done

He desolations brought on earth

On earth He puts an end to wars

Breaks bow and spear, and chariots burns

Be still! Know I am God

Exalted o’er all men

Exalted o’er all earth

The Lord of hosts with us!

Our fortress strong is Jacob’s God

HAIL TO JESUS
(PSALM 110)

“Be seated here at my right hand,”

The LORD to my Lord did command,

“For of these heathen I will make

A kingly footstool for your sake.”

The LORD shall send your mighty rod

From Zion’s hill, the mount of God,

To smite your foes until they break;

The throne among them you must take.

Hail to Jesus; Christ is reigning

All will bow and all will name Him

Jesus, King of Kings

Upon your head a crown of dew,

Your morning makes the old things new.

And all who see your holy power

Will bow before you in that hour.

Melchizedek, a kingly priest

In You his line is now increased

Your life, the off'ring that you gave

The price was paid; you left the grave.

The kings who fight against my Lord

Shall taste His wrath and meet His sword

Upon their corpses He will look

Then drink to vengeance from a brook.
