A PURITAN CATECHISM

11. What are God's works of providence?
God's works of providence are his most holy, wise, and powerful, preserving and governing all his creatures, and all their actions.

12. What special act of providence did God exercise toward man in the state wherein he was created?
When God had created man, he entered into a covenant of life with him, upon condition of perfect obedience; forbidding him to eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, upon pain of death.

13. Did our first parents continue in the state wherein they were created?
Our first parents being left to the freedom of their own will, fell from the state wherein they were created, by sinning against God, by eating the forbidden fruit.

14. What is sin?
Sin is any lack of conformity to, or transgression of the law of God.

15. Did all mankind fall in Adam's first transgression?
The covenant being made with Adam, not only for himself but for his posterity, all mankind descending from him by ordinary generation, sinned in him, and fell with him in his first transgression.

TO GOD BE THE GLORY

To God be the glory, great things He hath done
So loved He the world that He gave us His Son
Who yielded His life an atonement for sin
And opened the lifegate that all may go in

Praise the Lord, praise the Lord
Let the earth hear His voice!
Praise the Lord, praise the Lord
Let the people rejoice!
O come to the Father through Jesus, the Son,
And give Him the glory, great things He hath done!

O perfect redemption, the purchase of blood
To ev’ry believer the promise of God
The vilest offender who truly believes
That moment from Jesus a pardon receives

Great things He hath taught us, great things He Hath done
And great our rejoicing through Jesus the Son
But purer, and higher, and greater will be
Our wonder, our vict’ry, when Jesus we see

THAT MAN IS BLESSED
(PSALM 1A)

That man is blessed who does not walk
As wicked men advise,
Nor stand where sinners meet, nor sit
Where scorners pose as wise.
Instead he is the one who makes
The LORD's law his delight,
And in that law he meditates
By day and in the night.

He's like a deeply planted tree
Beside a water stream,
Which in its season bears its fruit,
Whose leaves stay fresh and green.
In all he does he will succeed.
The wicked are not so,
But they are like the scattered chaff
Swept by the winds that blow.

The wicked therefore will not stand
When time of judgment comes,
Nor will the sinners stand among
Assembled righteous ones.
Because the LORD the righteous loves;
The path they walk He knows.
The wicked walk a different path,
That to destruction goes.

SAVE ME, O LORD
(PSALM 140A)

Save me, O LORD, from those of evil mind;
Preserve me from the men of violence.
For in their hearts they work out evil plans,
And stir up wars around them ceaselessly.
They make their tongue as sharp as vipers' fangs;
Their lips contain the poison of a snake.

From power of the wicked, keep me, LORD.
Preserve me from the men of violence –
From those who work out ways to trip my feet.
The proud have placed a hidden trap for me;
With cords they made a net and spread it wide;
They set their snares for me along my path.

But to the LORD, I say: You are my God;
Give heed to these my supplications, LORD.
O LORD, my Lord, and my salvation's might –
My head you covered when the battle raged.
Now, LORD, grant not the wicked their desires;
Help not their plans, lest they grow great in pride.

But let the heads of those surrounding me
Be covered with the troubles they have caused.
Let coals fall on them! Cast them into fire;
Or into miry pits, no more to rise!
Let none who slanders be established here;
Let utter ruin hunt the violent!

But this I know: the LORD will yet maintain
The lawful claims of those who are oppressed,
And bring about true justice for the poor.
The righteous will give thanks to You indeed;
Yes, even to Your Name they give their praise,
And in Your presence shall the upright dwell.

SCRIPTURE READING

Numbers 9

APOSTLES' CREED

I believe in God the Father Almighty,
Maker of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ,
His only-begotten Son, our Lord,
Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the Virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, dead, and buried.
He descended into hades.
The third day He rose again from the dead.
He ascended into heaven and sits
at the right hand of God the Father Almighty.
From there He shall come to judge
the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting.
Amen.

CHRIST THE SURE AND STEADY ANCHOR

Christ the sure and steady anchor
In the fury of the storm
When the winds of doubt blow through me
And my sails have all been torn
In the suffering in the sorrow
When my sinking hopes are few
I will hold fast to the anchor
It shall never be removed

Christ the sure and steady anchor
While the tempest rages on
When temptation claims the battle
And it seems the night has won
Deeper still then goes the anchor
Though I justly stand accused
I will hold fast to the anchor
It shall never be removed

Christ the sure and steady anchor
Through the floods of unbelief
Hopeless somehow O my soul now
Lift your eyes to Calvary
This my ballast of assurance
See His love forever proved
I will hold fast to the anchor
It shall never be removed

Christ the sure and steady anchor
As we face the wave of death
When these trials give way to glory
And we draw our final breath
We will cross that great horizon
Clouds behind and life secured
And the calm will be the better
For the storms that we endured

Christ the shore of our salvation
Ever faithful ever true
We will hold fast to the anchor
It shall never be removed

BLESS THE LORD
(10,000 REASONS)

Bless the Lord O my soul O my soul
Worship His holy name
Sing like never before O my soul
I'll worship Your holy name

The sun comes up it's a new day dawning
It's time to sing Your song again
Whatever may pass and whatever lies before me
Let me be singing when the evening comes

You're rich in love and You're slow to anger
Your name is great and Your heart is kind
For all Your goodness I will keep on singing
Ten thousand reasons for my heart to find

And on that day when my strength is failing
The end draws near and my time has come
Still my soul will sing Your praise unending
Ten thousand years and then forevermore

YOU MADE US YOUR OWN

We were ruined in our sin
We were guilty and undone
When Your love reached down with sovereign hands
And beckoned us to come

You sought out the wanderers
Made the prodigals come home
With a lavish feast You welcomed us
For You made us Your own

You have loved us like You love Your Son
We are heirs with Christ bought by His blood
Oh how great the love that we've been shown
We're Your children now (You made us Your own)

We are strangers to the world
But no strangers to Your throne
We draw near You now with confidence
For all our fears are gone

And when Christ our King returns
We'll meet saints we've never known
And forever we will be amazed
That You made us Your own

SERMON

Matthew 5:9

TASTE AND SEE

I sought the Lord and He answered me
And delivered me from every fear
Those who look on Him are radiant
They'll never be ashamed
They'll never be ashamed

This poor man cried and the Lord heard me
And saved me from my enemies
The Son of God surrounds His saints
He will deliver them
He will deliver them

Magnify the Lord with me
Come exalt His name together
Glorify the Lord with me
Come exalt His name forever

O taste and see that the Lord is good
O blessed is he who hides in Him
O fear the Lord O all you saints
He'll give you everything
He'll give you everything

Let us bless the Lord
Every day and night
Never ending praise
May our incense rise
(Repeat)
